Northwest Missouri State University is providing guidelines for students as the spring semester wraps up, detailing how to return textbooks and laptops and how to pick up resources for the summer term.
Students have the option to return their textbooks and laptops in person at the university's Maryville campus or the Northwest-Kansas City location in Gladstone. Additionally, textbook shipping is available. Specific details can be found on the respective office websites.
Northwest, known for providing affordable education, includes laptops and textbooks in student tuition to ensure all students have access to necessary tools. The textbook rental program dates back to 1922, and the laptop rental initiative started in 2005. These programs have saved students an estimated $6,800 over a four-year period compared to other institutions.
For textbook returns, students can visit Textbook Services on the lower level of The Station in Maryville between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deadline for returns is 5 p.m. on May 2. Students can also return textbooks at Northwest-Kansas City during business hours. More information is available by calling 816.272.4621.
Students unable to return textbooks in person may use a university-provided UPS return label. These shipments must arrive by May 9, with the shipping label accessible until May 6. Late returns will incur a fee, and replacement costs will apply for unreturned items.
For summer textbooks, students should check them out before leaving campus during finals week or use a shipping request form for delivery. Summer books should be returned by August 8 to avoid late fees.
The laptop rental program also allows students considerable savings during their academic career. Laptops must be returned by May 9 to avoid a $1,500 non-returned charge, with a late fee of $20 daily applied once returned. Students can return laptops at either the Maryville or Gladstone locations.
Students returning for the fall semester must pre-register for classes to retain their laptops over the summer, subject to a $75 fee if not enrolled in summer courses. Failing to maintain pre-enrollment will result in a $1,500 charge.
For assistance with laptop issues, students are advised to visit the Electronic Campus Support Center.
