Northwest Missouri State University students and graduate assistants recently traveled to Dallas as part of the annual Bearcats in the Big City experience. Organized by Kathleen Kobayashi, office manager at the Booth School of Business, and graduate assistant Maggie McNeely, the event took place from March 26-29.

The program aims to connect students with professionals across various fields and introduce them to urban life. Participants toured AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, and visited Medium Giant, an integrated creative marketing agency. These activities provided networking opportunities with industry professionals.

Trey Smith, a senior marketing major from St. Joseph, Missouri, expressed enthusiasm for the experience. “I would highly encourage every person to apply for this opportunity,” Smith said. “It was not only great for connections and career insights, but it was also a ton of fun and an incredible experience.”

Kobayashi emphasized the importance of alumni connections during these visits. “I think they see that, as an alum, they can still participate and the importance of being connected – and that maybe this alum doesn’t work in your field, but their spouse does,” she noted.

Dr. Ben Blackford highlighted job opportunities available in companies like the Dallas Cowboys beyond sports management roles. “Even if you’re not a sport management major, the Dallas Cowboys still need marketing people, accounting people and finance people,” he stated.

McNeely shared insights from her participation in previous trips to Minneapolis and Dallas. She noted advice received on succeeding in business careers and adapting to city life through community involvement.

The Booth School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs and focuses on equipping students with essential skills such as critical thinking and ethical decision-making.
