Matt Tritten, a staff member at Northwest Missouri State University's National Public Radio affiliate KXCV-KRNW, has been awarded first place by the Missouri Broadcasters Association. Tritten received the accolade for Best Sports Report in Small Market Radio on May 31 during the association's annual convention held in Osage Beach, Missouri.
The Missouri Broadcasters Association annually reviews approximately 900 entries across more than 30 categories, awarding both first and second places.
John Coffey, Director and Station Manager of KXCV-KRNW, praised Tritten's work: "He did such a nice job on that piece and really captured the moment for the women’s team. The excitement of when that announcement was made, and stories like that are what makes radio shine the way it does. I think it was well-deserving. He does a great job with all he’s doing with sports and everything at the station."
Tritten joined KXCV-KRNW in 2017 after starting his broadcasting career at KQTV in St. Joseph, where he became sports director. He also served as assistant general manager for a year with the St. Joseph Mustangs summer collegiate baseball team.
At KXCV, Tritten initiated a community-based partnership and created an annual virtual 5k event called Run for Radio to support local public radio.
Tritten holds a bachelor's degree in broadcasting and a Master of Business Administration from Northwest. Reflecting on his recent award, he stated: "I still love reporting, and the award is an honor I don’t take lightly. It was pretty special to get the news that my story was selected, especially knowing just how competitive the category is and how many great submissions they received."
KXCV (90.5 FM), launched in 1971 as Missouri's first full-power public radio service, provides comprehensive news coverage along with alternative music programming from its base at Northwest campus. Its sister station KRNW (88.9), established in 1993, extends this programming across northern Missouri.
As part of its mission to serve listeners while training students, KXCV produces broadcasts for Northwest football and basketball games which are distributed to commercial affiliates throughout a four-state region. Their programming can be accessed online or via their Bearcat Public Media App.
