Northwest Missouri State University’s jazz ensembles will hold their first concert of the academic year on Monday, October 13. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater, located in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.

The university’s Professor of Music, Dr. William Richardson, will conduct the ensembles during this performance. “We are excited to feature the Northwest Studio Jazz Ensemble, Combo and Northwest Jazz Ensemble for an outstanding evening of toe-tapping music,” Richardson said. “Our students have worked very hard to put together a variety of jazz music for the community to enjoy.”

The groups performing include both audition-based and open-enrollment ensembles dedicated to a range of jazz and commercial music styles. These ensembles not only perform multiple concerts each year but also sponsor events such as the Northwest District Jazz Band performance and the Northwest Jazz Festival, while frequently hosting guest artists.

Some groups focus on introducing members to jazz style and improvisation, with opportunities available for students from any major without requiring auditions. Participation is encouraged for music education students who want to develop skills or play secondary instruments.

For additional information about musical ensembles or upcoming performances at Northwest Missouri State University, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the university's website.
