Northwest Missouri State University's Tower yearbook has once again been recognized as one of the best college yearbooks in the country, winning the prestigious Pacemaker Award for the third consecutive year. Steven Chappell, director of Student Media at Northwest, expressed his pride in the students' work, stating, "I am just monumentally impressed and proud of the work our students produce on a continuing basis."
The 2023 Tower yearbook, which adopted the theme "This is Northwest," documented campus life and personalities through writing, photography, and design. Competing against other collegiate yearbooks produced during the 2022-23 academic year, the Tower stood out among the rest. The Pacemaker Award, presented by Associated Collegiate Press (ACP), is one of the oldest awards for collegiate journalism, with a history dating back to 1921.
In addition to the recognition received by the Tower yearbook, The Northwest Missourian student newspaper also garnered multiple awards. At the ACP convention, The Missourian achieved accolades in categories such as Advertising Media Kit, Best Newspaper, and Best Website. Meanwhile, Tower secured second place in Best Yearbook. At the College Media Association (CMA) Spring National Media Convention, The Missourian excelled in Best Editorial and Best Multimedia Package, while Tower received top honors in Best Yearbook Spread and placed third in Best Yearbook Cover.
Hannah Claywell, a member of The Missourian, was recognized with an honorable mention for Best Opinion Column. Both the Tower yearbook, a 13-time Pacemaker recipient, and The Northwest Missourian, a two-time Pacemaker recipient, continue to showcase excellence in student media at Northwest Missouri State University.
