Northwest Missouri State University is currently seeking nominations for its 2024 Family of the Year scholarship, which will be awarded during the University’s annual Family Weekend in September. According to Duane Havard, the director of alumni relations at Northwest, the scholarship is a way to recognize a student with a strong family connection to the university.

"We are lucky to have a family atmosphere at Northwest, and I hear that comment at events I attend," said Duane Havard. "It is amazing to read the stories that are submitted, and it makes for a very hard selection committee decision each year. This scholarship is a great opportunity to recognize a student that has that family legacy of Northwest attendees and highlight all the family has done at Northwest."

The Family of the Year designation includes a $750 scholarship award for a member of the family who is a current Northwest student. To be eligible for nomination, the family must have several members who are Northwest alumni and demonstrate strong support for the university. The chosen family will be announced on Saturday, Sept. 28, during pregame activities at the Family Weekend Bearcat football game.

Last year, the Norman family was honored as the 2023 Northwest Family of the Year. The photo from the recognition ceremony shows the family members and university officials involved in the celebration.

To submit a nomination for the 2024 Family of the Year scholarship, interested individuals can complete the form on the Northwest Missouri State University website. Nominations must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30. The family selected for the award must be present during the Family Weekend to accept the honor.
