Northwest Missouri State University’s Board of Regents, during its regular session on Thursday, approved degree conferrals for the University’s spring graduates, in addition to recognizing one of its own. Elizabeth Motazedi, who graduates this spring with her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in social studies-history, was honored by the Regents for her exceptional service to the university.

Regent John Moore read aloud a resolution during the meeting, expressing gratitude to Elizabeth for her outstanding service and exemplary leadership. The resolution also conveyed the Board's best wishes for her future success and well-being. In response, Elizabeth expressed her gratitude to the Northwest community for the enriching student experience she had at the institution, stating, "I’m so honored. This has truly just been the best experience of my life. This University, the leadership here – I’m so blessed."

In addition to her role as student regent, Motazedi has been actively involved in various capacities on campus, including serving as Student Senate president, a student representative on the Northwest Alumni Association Board of Directors, vice president of recruitment and retention for the Panhellenic Council, and a member of Phi Mu sorority and Order of Omega. She also contributed as a student representative on the University’s Presidential Search Committee during the 2023-24 academic year.

Apart from honoring Motazedi, the Board of Regents approved adjunct faculty to teach during the upcoming summer term at Northwest. They also finalized their meeting schedule for the 2024-25 academic year and submitted nominations for the Board officer roles, which will be voted on during their June meeting.

During a work session, the Board received an update on the University’s energy infrastructure modernization project, set to begin this summer. The project includes the replacement of chillers and cooling towers in the campus’s central cooling plant and the installation of high-efficiency water boilers in buildings to enhance utility efficiencies and flexibility. This project is expected to continue through the summer of 2026.

The Board of Regents plays a crucial role in overseeing the sound resource management of the University and determining general, educational, and financial policies.
