Northwest Missouri State University Celebrates Graduates and Encourages Community Engagement

Northwest Missouri State University recently held its spring commencement ceremonies to honor the achievements of its graduates while urging them to stay connected with the University and make a positive impact in their communities. Speaking at the ceremonies, Northwest President Dr. Lance Tatum emphasized the importance of the university's community in fostering growth and preparing students for the future.

Tatum encouraged the graduates to embrace leadership roles, set examples for others, and continue seeking wisdom as they embark on their post-graduation journey. He highlighted the values of trustworthiness, exceeding expectations, and honorability, urging the graduates to uphold these principles in their personal and professional lives.

Addressing the challenges faced by the graduates during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tatum commended their resilience and determination, stating, “Adversity did not deter you. Instead, it forged you into a resilient individual, ready to embrace what lies ahead.”

The commencement ceremonies celebrated the success of 1,377 students, with degrees ranging from bachelor's to education specialist levels. The most common bachelor's degrees were in elementary education and business management, while applied computer science topped the list for master's degrees.

Geographically, the graduates represented a diverse group, with students from 37 states and 10 different countries. The university prides itself on its high retention and graduation rates, as well as the satisfaction levels reported by its students compared to national peers.

Northwest's focus on profession-based learning has led to high employment rates for its graduates, with 97 percent of bachelor's degree earners and 99 percent of master's degree earners securing employment or continuing their education within six months of graduation.

The university's commitment to providing diverse learning opportunities, student organizations, and affordable tuition sets it apart as a leading institution in higher education. Northwest's emphasis on practical experiences and career readiness ensures that graduates are well-equipped to succeed in their chosen fields.
