Northwest Missouri State University will participate in a statewide initiative on January 25 by hosting an event aimed at assisting students and families with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The workshop, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in the J.W. Jones Student Union Boardroom, offers one-on-one or small group support.

The event is open to current Northwest students, regional high school students planning to attend Northwest, and other high school students seeking help with the FAFSA. Northwest's financial aid staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance.

Two scholarships will be awarded through a drawing among attendees. Charles Mayfield, director of financial assistance at Northwest, stated, “We’re looking forward to helping Northwest students complete the FAFSA, and we look forward to our public service role as we help any student interested in applying for financial aid to their college of choice.” He added that they aim to "remove confusion and stress from the FAFSA completion process by providing individual support."

Completing the FAFSA is often the initial step for students applying for college financial aid. It is used by federal, state, and institutional programs to determine eligibility for grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships.

The 2025-26 FAFSA is currently available with an Access Missouri Priority deadline of February 3. For more details about the event or other FAFSA Day locations in Missouri, contact Northwest's Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance.
