Northwest Missouri State University is set to host its second annual Sonatina-Sonata Festival, featuring performances by young musicians and a guest appearance by pianist Dr. Slawomir Dobrzański. The event will take place at the Charles Johnson Theater in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building on January 26.

The festival will commence with an Honors Recital at 4 p.m., showcasing students from grades five through twelve. Later, at 7 p.m., Dr. Dobrzański will perform for attendees.

Dr. Anthony Olson, a professor of music at Northwest, expressed enthusiasm about the festival's growth since its inception last year. "We’re just happy that the festival is growing," he said. Olson hopes to encourage more collaborative performances between keyboard players and other instrumentalists, stating, “We’re really hoping to have more collaborative performances between keyboard players and keyboard players and other instruments.”

The Sonatina-Sonata Festival aims to provide pre-college students with performance opportunities on a university campus, feedback from faculty members, and chances to win awards or scholarships. Dr. Dobrzański will select the award winners during the event.

Dr. Dobrzański is a professor of piano at Kansas State University with an extensive performance history across four continents. He has produced world-premiere recordings of various composers' works and authored a biography of Maria Szymanowska in English.

The event is free for all attendees seeking an evening of piano music.

For further details regarding the festival or audition requirements, interested parties are encouraged to contact Dr. Anthony Olson.
