Northwest Missouri State University is offering an opportunity for the campus community to address anxiety and stress through a special event. Evan Gambardella, a therapeutic hypnotist, will present his "Train Your Brain" program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. The event is free and open to everyone.
Gambardella is certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists as an instructor of hypnosis and has performed across 20 countries on six continents. His program focuses on mental health fitness for individuals dealing with anxiety, chronic stress, depression, loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
"This interactive and fun experience is all about supporting mental health, especially during stressful times," stated Katelyn Briggs, SAC president and junior psychology major from Eagleville, Missouri. "Anyone who attends will walk away feeling more relaxed, mentally stronger and with practical tools to handle stress, stay focused and create a healthier balance between school and life."
The Student Activities Council (SAC) organizes events to enhance social, recreational, and cultural life for students at Northwest. These activities include concerts, lectures, movies, comedians, and other late-night events throughout the year.
Upcoming SAC events include a craft night on March 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Additionally, Northwest Week will occur from March 24-28. The annual spring concert sponsored by SAC is scheduled for April 4. A miniature golf night at B.D. Owens Library will take place on April 8.
