As the academic term concludes, Northwest Missouri State University is working alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Nodaway County to promote the annual Big Green Move Out. This initiative encourages students heading home for summer to donate unwanted items, thus minimizing landfill contributions.

The donation drive runs from Monday, April 14, to Saturday, May 3, offering students the chance to contribute clothing, unopened hygiene products, and household items for a good cause.

Collection bins will be operational in the lobby of every Northwest residence hall. Additional locations include Dollar General, Sutherlands, Hy-Vee, Walmart, and BBBS office, all situated on Main Street.

Tim Hill, Northwest environmental sustainability coordinator, stated, “The Big Green Move Out is another way students can embrace sustainable practices. Instead of trashing items that can be reused, donate them to help advance Big Brothers Big Sisters’ work with local youth.”

Students can also discard recyclable materials at designated bins in residence halls or the recycling center, located west of the Northwest campus on Icon Road, open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

For non-perishable food donations, separate bins are available in the residence halls, or items can be directly contributed to the J.W. Jones Student Union or local food banks such as the Ministry Center on Main Street in Maryville.
