The Northwest Missouri State University community is set to recognize the contributions of a key figure in its radio station's history. KXCV, the university's National Public Radio affiliate, announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially name its broadcast studio in honor of Sharon Cross-Bonnett, a former producer, program director, and general manager at the station.
The event will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at the radio station's second-floor studio in Wells Hall. The studio will be renamed the Sharon Cross-Bonnett Studio as a tribute to Cross-Bonnett’s extensive contributions to the station over her 34-year career, which concluded with her retirement in 2006. She passed away in 2023.
Cross-Bonnett, a 1965 graduate of Northwest, played a vital role in expanding the station's reach. Her significant achievements include the launch of KRNW, a repeater station in Chillicothe; initiation of audio reader services for the visually impaired; and the establishment of the Bearcat Radio Network. Under her leadership, KXCV extended its broadcast schedule to operate around the clock every day of the year.
Her dedication to public broadcasting earned her multiple accolades, including several Missouri Broadcast Association awards and two national Corporation for Public Broadcasting awards. In 2021, she received the Northwest Alumni Association’s Public Service Award, further cementing her legacy within the community.
KXCV looks to honor her enduring impact with this ceremony and hopes the studio renaming will serve as a testament to her significant contributions.
