Northwest Missouri State University has reported that its summer enrollment numbers have exceeded 5,500 students for the second consecutive year. According to the university's recent census, this summer sees 1,910 undergraduate students and 3,592 graduate students enrolled. Despite a total headcount decrease of 5% from last year, undergraduate enrollment remains consistent with figures from the past five years.
Graduate enrollment has decreased by 7.6%, attributed to a decline in international student numbers. This follows a previous record where graduate headcount surpassed 3,000 for the first time. Undergraduate students are enrolled in 13,073 credit hours this summer, marking a 4.5% increase from last year, while overall student enrollment accounts for a total of 32,571 credit hours.
Dr. Allison Hoffmann, associate provost for enrollment management and student success at Northwest, expressed satisfaction with the current enrollment figures: “It is great to see so many Northwest students engaged in coursework again this summer." She also emphasized the importance of these academic offerings: "Northwest’s summer academic offerings allow students the opportunity to continue progressing toward their degree or credential in a timely manner.”
Hoffmann further noted her contentment with maintaining over 5,500 in total summer enrollment and stable undergraduate numbers: “Enrollment and completion are a top priority at Northwest.”
Online-only coursework is prevalent among both undergraduate and graduate students during the summer months due to employment or internships away from campus. Specifically, 83% of undergraduates and 70% of graduates are enrolled online.
Missouri residents make up 68% of those enrolled in summer courses at Northwest. The institution experienced a significant drop in international enrollment by 78% compared to last year.
