This is the last week of Preservation Month and we are revisiting some lesser known lost buildings of the area. In June of 1941 the Grand River crested at 28.5 feet, sending water cascading all over the place. I believe this picture is of the Chillicothe Walnut Lumber Company at 1 Cherry right after that flood. Note the man in a canoe getting around. The lumber yard was owned by Orval A. Myers who was also President of the Chillicothe Furniture Company (which was also on south Cherry Street). Orval died in 1954. It seems the lumber yard lived on for many years under the name Chillicothe Lumber Company. It last appears in the directory in 2002.
