On March 22, 2024, Northwest Missouri State University announced the approval of promotions and tenure appointments for 19 faculty members. The Board of Regents gave the green light to the applications, marking a significant recognition of academic excellence within the institution.

Northwest Provost Dr. Jamie Hooyman expressed pride in the selected faculty members, stating, "These 19 individuals are excellent examples of the high-quality and hard-working faculty at Northwest. All of them are outstanding in their areas of teaching, service to the institution, and scholarly activity. I could not be prouder to work alongside such amazing and talented people."

The faculty members who received promotions and tenure were acknowledged for their dedication and contributions. The new ranks, effective at the beginning of the 2024-25 academic year, reflect their commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university.

To attain tenure and promotion, faculty members at Northwest must demonstrate sustained excellence in various areas, including teaching, professional development, scholarship, and service to students. The process involves submitting a comprehensive portfolio that highlights accomplishments in these key areas.

Tenure signifies a long-term commitment between a faculty member and the university, ensuring employment until the individual chooses to resign, retire, or is discharged. At Northwest, faculty members become eligible to apply for tenure and promotion to the rank of associate professor after four years as an assistant professor. Similarly, the title of full professor is conferred upon those who have dedicated a minimum of five years as an associate professor at the university. Additionally, instructors who have served for at least six years at Northwest can apply for promotion to the rank of senior instructor.

The recent promotions and tenure awards at Northwest Missouri State University underscore the institution's commitment to recognizing and supporting academic excellence among its faculty members.
