The Gose family was honored as Northwest Missouri State University's 2024 Family of the Year on Saturday at Bearcat Stadium. This recognition, awarded during the University’s Family Weekend, celebrates a family that exemplifies commitment to the institution.

Warren Gose, who passed away in 2014, served as vice president of finance at Northwest from 1980 until his retirement in 1996. His son Peter Gose, a 1987 alumnus, expressed pride and emotion during the halftime recognition at Saturday’s football game. “He’d just be very pleased. He really lived for the University,” Peter said.

The Gose family of Parkville, Missouri includes Tracey and Peter Gose, their children Graham and Gillian, Grant Gose, and Diane Scheneman. They received a $750 scholarship award for a current Northwest student among other prizes.

Grant Gose, a senior cyber assurance major at Northwest and grandson of Warren, nominated his family to honor their legacy. “It means the world to me,” he said about his time at Northwest. “The friends I’ve made here will probably last longer than my previous college and high school experiences.”

The family's roots in northwest Missouri date back to the late 1800s when their ancestors settled near Maryville. Their association with Northwest began when Warren started working there as vice president of finance. During his tenure, he managed financial aspects related to various university projects including the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts and alternative energy programs.

Peter reflected on his father's influence: “When I was in high school (in Maryville), Dad was so instrumental in getting the Owens Library...and just his enthusiasm was so infectious.” Peter graduated from Northwest with degrees in finance and economics and an MBA. He is currently employed with Lumen Technologies as regulatory affairs director.

Diane Scheneman graduated from Northwest in 1989 with a degree in elementary and early childhood education before earning a master’s degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado. She works as a special education teacher with Omaha Public Schools.

Chris Gose, Grant's uncle, graduated from Northwest in 1992 with a degree in public relations and founded CCI Communications. He resides with his family in Holladay, Utah.

Grant joined Sigma Phi Epsilon like his father and uncle after transferring to Northwest following an Associate degree from Metropolitan Community College. He serves as vice president of Sig Ep’s Learning Community while completing an apprenticeship with Oracle Cerner.

Family of the Year recipients are selected based on applications submitted by students who maintain a GPA of at least 3.00, participate actively both on campus and within their community, and demonstrate multi-generational involvement with Northwest.
