Northwest Missouri State University announces winners at centennial homecoming

Northwest Missouri State University concluded its 2024 Homecoming with an awards ceremony on October 23, announcing winners from various competitions held throughout the celebration. The event marked the 100th anniversary of the university's first Homecoming in 1924, celebrated under the theme “A Century of Homecomings.” Activities included a variety show, an international flag-raising ceremony, a parade, and a football game. Additionally, the class of 1974 participated in its annual 50-year reunion.

Sal Bonadonna and Chloe DeVries were crowned as Northwest's Homecoming king and queen. Bonadonna is a senior cybersecurity major from Kansas City, Missouri, while DeVries is a senior chemistry major with a biochemistry emphasis from Red Oak, Iowa.

In competition results, Alpha Delta Pi won first place for their banner. The School of Agricultural Sciences secured first place for sidewalk chalk art. Alpha Sigma Alpha achieved both first place and people's choice awards for their donation creation entry.

The Donation Creation contest led to student organizations donating over 1,228 pounds of food to Maryville Ministry Center and 274 pounds to Bearcat Food Pantry. A blood drive during the week collected 137 units for the Community Blood Center.

The executive board overseeing this year's events comprised Sarah Linder from Des Moines, Iowa; Nikki Stueve from Hiawatha, Kansas; Riley Steele from Kansas City, Missouri; and Mikoya Tisdel also from Kansas City.

Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Phi Epsilon presented "The Legend of Bobby Bearcat’s Groove" at the Variety Show. Alpha Sigma Alpha and Tau Kappa Epsilon took first place with their skit "Back to the 50s." Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. was recognized for their olio act performance.

Phillip Motazedi received his second consecutive People's Choice Award as Best Skit Actor for his role as Bobby Bearcat. Phi Sigma Kappa earned second place in the parade with their dancing clown performance.

Alpha Sigma Alpha was awarded Overall Parade Winner and Homecoming Supremacy Winner by performing as flappers in a dancing clowns contest.
