Northwest Missouri State University's Concert Band is set to perform its fall concert on Tuesday, November 12. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater, located within the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert program includes a selection of works chosen with input from student conductors as part of their preparation for teaching experiences. Featured pieces include Andrew Boysen’s “The Vikings,” Randall Standridge’s “The Rowan Tree,” Robert Shelton’s “As Twilight Falls,” Jorge Vargas’s “Blue Comet,” and Richard Saucedo’s “Fanfare and Homage.”

A highlight of the evening will be the premiere of a new composition dedicated to the ensemble by Dr. William Sutton, who conducts the Concert Band and serves as an assistant professor of music at Northwest.

“Our purpose remains to provide students from across campus, regardless of major, a way to participate in a musical endeavor,” Sutton stated. He added that he wants students "to continue playing their instruments and support the arts throughout their lives after Northwest."

Founded in 2021, the band features brass, woodwind, percussion, and string bass instruments. It performs a diverse repertoire ranging from historically significant works to contemporary compositions and premieres.

Participation in the ensemble does not require auditions and is open to all Northwest students, employees, and community residents. The group holds two concerts each during both fall and spring semesters.
