Northwest Missouri State University's Department of Fine and Performing Arts is set to present "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," a play by Simon Stephens adapted from Mark Haddon's novel. The performances will be held at the Studio Theater in the Ron Houston Center for Performing Arts from November 14 to 17.

The narrative follows Christopher, a bright but anxious 15-year-old who discovers his neighbor's dog, Wellington, dead. Despite his apprehensions, Christopher embarks on an investigation that leads him to uncover significant secrets.

Kat Bilbo, associate professor of theatre and director of the production, stated: “The University and local communities will see a genre they may not be familiar with – a contemporary drama-mystery.” She added that beyond solving mysteries, the play focuses on Christopher's unique perspective on life due to his unusual way of processing information.

Shelby Weise, a senior theatre performance major from Indianola, Iowa, plays Siobhan, Christopher’s teacher. Weise emphasized the importance of storytelling and collaboration in theatre: “It’s a reflection of the human experience... It unites people in these beautiful stories.”

Theatre Northwest will wrap up its fall season with an Alpha Psi Omega children's show on December 15. The spring schedule includes "A Spring Evening of One-Acts" in February and concludes with "Pride and Prejudice: A New Musical" in April.
