Northwest Missouri State University is set to highlight the significance of agriculture in the region with a series of events from November 9 to 16. The activities will culminate in the second annual Taste of Northwest Agriculture Market on November 16.
The Celebrate Agriculture Week will feature various educational sessions, networking opportunities, and competitions at the University's Agricultural Learning Center (ALC) located on R.T. Wright Farm in Maryville. The week-long event is designed to connect producers and consumers while offering local goods for sampling and purchase.
Dr. Rod Barr, director of the School of Agricultural Sciences, emphasized the importance of recognizing agriculture's impact, stating, “If we sit back and think about the impact agriculture makes on each and every one of us from a food standpoint, we need to celebrate that.”
A career networking event with agriculture employers is scheduled for November 12. Additional activities include a livestock show hosted by Block and Bridle on November 13, a chili and soup cook-off organized by the Agronomy Club on November 14, and a barbeque contest by Alpha Gamma Rho and Sigma Alpha on November 15.
Throughout the week, there will be a food drive in collaboration with Hy-Vee to support the Maryville Ministry Center.
The ALC enhances agricultural education through its facilities which opened in 2021 at Wright Farm. It supports various programs offered by Northwest’s School of Agricultural Sciences including agriculture business, education, media, science, agronomy, and animal science.
