C.J. Holthaus, an English instructor at Northwest Missouri State University, is set to deliver the "Last Lecture" for this year. Titled "Bearcats Believe," the lecture will take place on Tuesday, November 19, at 6 p.m. in Room 2550 of the Garrett-Strong Science Building. This event is free and open to the public.

The lecture series is sponsored by Northwest's Society of President’s Scholars and provides a platform for a faculty member to present as if it were their final lecture. Holthaus plans to share beliefs that have influenced her journey from undergraduate student to instructor, using humor and practical insights to inspire others in exploring their paths.

Holthaus holds academic interests in composition rhetoric, ethics in fiction, and young adult bildungsroman books. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts in English from Northwest Missouri State University.

The Society of President’s Scholars selects its "Last Lecture" presenter annually based on input from students at Northwest. Ethan Shutts, president of the society and a senior majoring in computer science and cybersecurity from Kansas City, Missouri, expressed anticipation for Holthaus's presentation: “Holthaus’s background in composition and rhetoric gives her a unique perspective on how language can be harnessed to improve our everyday life, and I’m eager to see what wisdom she will bring to the Last Lecture.”
