Northwest Missouri State University is collaborating with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Nodaway County to encourage students to participate in the annual Big Green Move Out. This initiative aims to reduce landfill waste by donating unwanted items as students prepare to leave campus for winter break.

The event will take place from Monday, December 2, through Friday, December 13. During this period, students can donate clothing, unopened hygiene products, and household items. Collection bins are located in the lobby of each Northwest residence hall and at several local businesses: Dollar General at 925 N. Main St., Sutherlands at 1718 S. Main St., Hy-Vee at 1217 S. Main St., Walmart at 1605 S. Main St., and the BBBS office at 2112 S. Main St.

Students are also encouraged to recycle materials such as cardboard, paper, plastic, aluminum, steel, tin, and glass using recycling bins available in residence halls or at Northwest’s recycling center on Icon Road. The center operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Non-perishable food donations can be made in designated bins within Northwest residence halls or directly at the J.W. Jones Student Union and local food banks like the Ministry Center located at 971 S. Main St. in Maryville.
