The Northwest Missouri State University Recycling Center is taking steps to combat hunger in the community by collecting non-perishable food donations. This initiative, organized by Northwest Facility Services, aims to support local food pantries during the winter season.
Residents are encouraged to contribute food items from Monday, December 2, through Saturday, December 14. Donations can be made at the Recycling Center on Icon Road in Maryville. The center will accept both recyclables and food donations during its regular hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
The collected food will benefit local organizations including the Maryville Ministry Center. Items needed include canned fruits and vegetables, canned tuna or chicken, soup, dried pasta, sauce, oatmeal, cereal, crackers, peanut butter, and jelly.
“Area residents who recycle throughout the year benefit the community by reducing their environmental footprint,” said Tim Hill, Northwest’s environmental sustainability coordinator. “By generously donating non-perishable items during this food drive, they will benefit the community by helping to reduce food insecurity.”
In observance of the holiday season, the Recycling Center will be closed from Saturday, December 21 through Thursday, December 26. It will reopen for recycling activities from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 27 before closing again from Saturday, December 28 through Wednesday, January 1.
