Northwest Missouri State University has announced that the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse will be accessible to families for recreational activities during the university's winter break. The facility will open its doors from December 26 to December 31, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Access is free for all ages with a signed waiver, though children under 13 must have adult supervision.

Community members can also use the facility for walking sessions on specific dates: December 16-20, December 23-24, January 2-3, January 6-7, and January 9-10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. During these times, patrons need to present their Maryville Parks and Recreation membership card.

Visitors are advised to park in lots south of the Hughes Fieldhouse and enter through the Connections Bank entrance where they must sign a waiver.

Regular hours at the Hughes Fieldhouse will resume on Monday, January 13, aligning with the start of Northwest’s spring semester.

The Hughes Fieldhouse opened in fall 2018 as part of a significant public-private partnership in Northwest Missouri State University's history. The $21 million facility spans over 137,250 square feet and includes features such as a 90-yard turf field and a 300-meter track. It serves various social, recreational, and economic purposes for both the university and surrounding region.

For additional information about using the facility or about the Hughes Fieldhouse itself, individuals are encouraged to contact Northwest’s campus recreation office at phone number provided or visit their website.
