The College of Arts and Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University has recently recognized five faculty and staff members with the Dean’s Compass Awards. These awards highlight individuals who embody the university's core values, such as collaboration, respect, integrity, and excellence.
Dr. Elise Hepworth introduced the awards during the academic unit planning and development meetings in January. "I wished to initiate this award to publicly recognize the contributions our tremendous faculty and staff make to their departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, and more broadly Northwest Missouri State University," Hepworth stated. She emphasized that these individuals have gone above and beyond in serving students and colleagues.
Michelle Allen from the Department of Natural Sciences was acknowledged for her extensive contributions, including laboratory supply management and overseeing lab renovations at Garrett-Strong Science Building. Dr. Jiwon Choi of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts was recognized for her dedication to musical excellence and support for students' performances.
In the Department of Language, Literature, and Writing, Dr. Richard Black was honored for his mentorship roles following his promotion to full professor. Haley Hutcheson from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics was commended for coordinating high school mathematics competitions since 2023. A colleague described her as "a strong collaborator who fosters positive discussions."
Dr. Bronson Herrera from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences received recognition for his work with Northwest’s Center for Policy and Civic Engagement (CPCE) and efforts in developing a master’s degree program in public administration.
Each recipient represents one department within the College of Arts and Sciences, showcasing their commitment to enhancing both student experiences and departmental functions.
