Northwest Missouri State University is preparing to welcome students and their families for its annual Family Weekend, scheduled for September 26-28. The event features a range of activities including entertainment, athletics, and opportunities for families to engage with the campus community.

Katelyn Briggs, president of the Student Activities Council (SAC) and a senior psychology major from Eagleville, Missouri, highlighted the importance of the weekend. “It’s a great time,” Briggs said. “It’s a great way for families, especially, to come and see the community and see what students have gotten involved in. Also, not everyone has access to shows like these on their own, so it’s just a good way to bring your family together and see more of the community.”

The schedule includes free entertainment such as magician Peter Boie performing “Magician for Non-Believers” at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 26 in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. Boie is known for his performances on national television and events with well-known figures.

On Saturday morning, SAC will sponsor a pancake breakfast featuring Chris Cakes from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Michael L. Faust Center for Alumni and Friends. The breakfast offers all-you-can-eat pancakes along with sausages, coffee, and orange drink at no cost.

Additional activities include bowling for Northwest families from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Bearcat Lanes in Maryville or a free movie screening of “Inside Out 2” during the same hours at The Hangar in Maryville. Students must present their Bearcat Card to receive complimentary admission to both bowling and the movie.

Athletic events are also part of Family Weekend festivities. The Bearcat football team will face off against the University of Central Oklahoma with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Bearcat Stadium. Prior to the game, fans can participate in the Bearcat Zone tailgate starting at 10:30 a.m. at Raymond J. Courter College Park Pavilion—a space that offers food options including $15 meals for adults as well as beverages available for purchase.

Families interested in more information or seeking details about specific events are encouraged to contact Northwest’s Office of Student Involvement by phone.
