Northwest Missouri State University will host The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra for a free concert on Friday, October 10. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building and is open to the public.

The performance will feature new jazz arrangements inspired by music from the British Invasion era, including songs by The Beatles and The Who. This initiative aims to blend classic rock with modern jazz interpretations.

Dr. William Richardson, Professor of Music at Northwest and conductor of the university’s jazz ensembles, commented on the upcoming event: “We are so excited to host the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, an outstanding group of musicians who normally play at the Kauffman Center in Kansas City. This performance is especially unique in that it is completely free to attend. We would love to see a large audience for this special event.”

Founded in 2003, The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra performs both traditional favorites and contemporary works. The ensemble regularly appears at venues such as the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and Folly Theater through its Signature Series, operates a smaller group called KCJO 5, and runs an educational program named “JazzWorks!” These efforts contribute to their reputation as leaders in local and international jazz communities.

The concert offers an opportunity for community members and students to experience live big band music without cost.
