As colder weather approaches, Northwest Missouri State University is urging its community to prepare for winter conditions. The University Police Department, working with the National Weather Service and state agencies, has issued reminders about winter safety.
“It is essential for Northwest students and the Maryville community to be aware and prepare for sheltering in place with supplies for several days in case of an extended winter weather event that may limit travel and access to essential resources,” said University Police Chief Amanda Cullin.
The university will share winter weather safety information through social media during the week. Emergency management organizations in Missouri are also encouraging residents to review potential hazards and safety guidelines as winter nears.
Northwest notifies students and staff of campus closures via Bearcat Alert text messages, emails, official social media accounts, and its website. If the campus remains open during severe weather, individuals are encouraged to assess their own ability to travel safely before coming to campus.
The university offers tips on staying safe during winter months. For further details or guidance on preparing for severe weather, individuals can contact the University Police Department or consult resources from the National Weather Service or Missouri State Emergency Management Agency online.
