Northwest Missouri State University concluded its 2025 Homecoming festivities with an awards ceremony recognizing winners of various competitions held during the annual event. The celebration, which took place from October 19 to 25, marked the university's 101st Homecoming with the theme “101 years in the books.” Activities included traditional events such as the Variety Show, International Flag-Raising Ceremony, parade, and football game. The university also hosted a reunion for members of the class of 1975.
Riley Steele and Abby Fisher were named Northwest’s 2024 Homecoming king and queen. Steele is a senior psychology major from Kansas City, Missouri, while Fisher is a senior biology major with a biomedical sciences emphasis from Ashland, Nebraska.
The Donation Creation contest led student organizations to construct themed scenes using canned and boxed food items. This effort resulted in donations totaling 974 pounds of food to the Maryville Ministry Center and another 615 pounds to the Bearcat Food Pantry. Additionally, Northwest collected 112 units of blood during a drive organized in partnership with the American Red Cross.
The executive board overseeing this year’s Homecoming consisted of Sarah Linder (senior social media management major from Des Moines, Iowa), Nessa Montgomery (sophomore mass media major from Brookfield, Missouri), Olivia Owen (junior social media management major from Kansas City, Missouri), and Jilliane Spiegel (junior elementary and special education major from Kansas City, Missouri).
Several student groups received recognition for their contributions during Homecoming week. Sigma Sigma Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Delta Pi were awarded best float in the parade. Sigma Kappa took first place in one competition category while Sigma Sigma Sigma was honored for its donation creation efforts.
Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Phi Epsilon won first place for their Dr. Seuss-inspired skit “Phoning A Friend” at the Variety Show. Chloe Tomney was recognized for her olio act at this event as well.
Other honors included Phi Mu earning third place for paper mache heads; Phi Mu and Alpha Gamma Rho taking first place for their jalopy entry; and Phi Sigma Kappa winning first place in the Dancing Clowns competition during the parade.
