Northwest Missouri State University recently held its 14th annual Northwest Awards and Recognition ceremony to honor exceptional students, faculty, and staff. Northwest President Dr. Lance Tatum commended the recipients, stating, "Dedicated, passionate and hardworking. These are words that characterize today’s recipients." The event celebrated excellence across various departments and areas of the University, with Tatum emphasizing the impact of the awardees on the institution.
During the ceremony, Stancy Bond, a senior instructor, delivered a keynote address focusing on the role of love in education, student success, and leadership. Bond highlighted the importance of love-based leadership in empowering students to become compassionate and ethical leaders, inspiring positive change within their communities.
Among the award recipients was Mariely Sabino from the Graduate Office, recognized for her professionalism, dedication, and proactive attitude. The Women's Club Basketball members, Amaira Peterson and Meagan Moreland, were acknowledged for providing opportunities for female students to engage in competitive basketball on campus.
The Homecoming Parade Committee, represented by Abby Linhart, received praise for their exceptional dedication and efficient organization of the parade. Similarly, Ryan Shurvington was commended for his unwavering support and leadership within the Bearcat community.
Student Senate President Elizabeth Motazedi was recognized for her role in fostering student leadership development and advocacy on campus. Denise Neal and Nick Bolton were also honored for their exceptional leadership qualities and contributions to the university community.
The awards ceremony also acknowledged the outstanding efforts of employees from various departments. Kelli Wilmes from Human Resources was lauded for her ability to create connections and support student learning. Kristin, also from Human Resources, was recognized for her dedication to improving the Mock Interview Day experience for students.
Additionally, student organizations such as the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and the Northwest Admissions Team were praised for their commitment to student engagement and recruitment efforts.
The Student Success Center recognized individuals such as Dr. Taylor Harrison and Taylor Suiter for their ongoing support and mentorship of students. The Student Affairs Complex team was also acknowledged for their dedication to providing essential services to new and current students on campus.
The Library Research Awards honored students like Grace Wineinger, Genevieve Plum, and Ryan Watson for their outstanding research projects covering topics ranging from the language of concealment during the Holocaust to Indigenous agricultural practices in Peru.
