Northwest Missouri State University is offering students a range of professional development opportunities this fall, including networking events and career advice sessions. Career Day, a recurring event each semester, allows students to engage with various employers on campus to discuss internships and full-time employment.

"Attending networking and career programs are a crucial step in building a successful future," said Kristin Little, career services coordinator. "These events provide students with invaluable opportunities to connect with industry professionals, gain real-world insights and sharpen their skills. By participating, students not only enhance their career readiness but also open doors to potential internships, job offers and mentorships that can shape their professional journey."

Career Services provides additional support throughout the semester, such as résumé and cover letter assistance, job and internship search help, networking tips, and interview preparation.

Career Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse. Students are encouraged to bring copies of their résumés for discussions with employers and graduate school representatives. The event requires no cost or registration.

Mock Interview Days offer students 30-minute sessions with real employers who provide feedback on résumés and interview skills. These sessions are tailored to specific academic majors based on employer availability and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must submit their résumés at least one week before the event.

Meet the Pros events allow students to ask questions of professionals across various careers to gain insights into different industries. These events aim to build connections between students and industry professionals.

The Career Closet has relocated to the Support Services Building this fall, providing Northwest students with attire for all types of career fields at no cost. Students can visit between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday or make an appointment for other times.

Northwest emphasizes profession-based learning experiences available across multiple areas of study on campus. This includes opportunities at the R.T. Wright Farm or Knacktive—a student-driven integrated digital marketing communications agency—and hosting annual mass casualty training exercises in conjunction with its emergency and disaster management program.

According to university data, 93 percent of Northwest bachelor’s degree earners and 99 percent of master’s degree earners secure employment or continue their education within six months of graduation.

For more information about Northwest Career Services resources, call 660-562-1250 or visit their office located on the first floor of the Administration Building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
