Northwest Missouri State University is calling on students to submit their work for the annual Celebration of Scholars, an interdisciplinary symposium that highlights outstanding student projects across campus. Sponsored by the Society of President’s Scholars, the Honors Program, the Office of the Provost, and Career Services, this event welcomes submissions from all Northwest students. Eligible work includes projects completed during the spring semester or any time in the previous year.

The symposium offers a platform for students to showcase their research and projects to a wider audience beyond their classrooms. This experience not only enhances public speaking and presentation skills but also provides networking opportunities with peers and faculty. Dr. Mohammed Meziani, a professor of chemistry and sponsor of Northwest’s Honors Program, emphasized the benefits: “By inviting students and faculty to engage in this event, we not only celebrate students’ hard work and achievements but also encourage the exchange of knowledge and best practices.”

Dr. Meziani further explained that such interactions help students refine their skills: “Such interactions enhance students’ understanding, introduce them to new ideas and innovations, and refine their skills.” He added that it serves as a networking opportunity: “Ultimately, this experience equips students with the confidence and expertise needed for academic success, research excellence, and future career advancement.”

Past participants have presented creative writing pieces, original research papers, analytical essays, speeches, panel discussions, artwork displays, dramatic readings, music performances or analyses. The symposium encourages presentations of original work or projects completed through coursework or internships.

Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 21. The event will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the J.W. Jones Student Union. Sessions will run concurrently with displays featuring posters and other project presentations.

Awards will be given for top project presentations with attendees having chances to win door prizes.
