Eleven senior students at Northwest Missouri State University are showcasing their creative work this month in the Senior Preview Exhibition at the Olive DeLuce Art Gallery. This exhibition is part of their preparation for graduation and entry into various artistic fields.

Tom LaPann, an assistant professor of art, organized the exhibit with the graduating art majors. "This is one of the coolest shows, where you get a cross-section of all the different work being made, and it’s a culminating event," LaPann said. "All the work is from seniors and it’s some of their best work as they’re about to leave."

Olivia Dorman, a studio art major from Kansas City, Missouri, prepared animal-themed sculptures for the preview. She noted that each student's unique style adds to the show's impressiveness. "The amount of work that is in our show is more impressive because everybody has their own unique style and contributes something different than previous shows," Dorman said.

Shay Rohn from Bowling Green, Missouri, combines photography with acrylic paint in her piece titled “Maneuvering Around Mankind.” She plans to teach at a university while continuing her artistic endeavors after graduation. "Once I came (to Northwest), I needed to find a style, so I kind of started pushing into the natural elements," Rohn said.

Logan Oliver from Savannah, Missouri produced an oil and acrylic painting titled “Glossolalia – Tilly.” Her experience at Northwest helped her appreciate oil paints. After graduation, she aims to pursue graphic design. "Armin (Muhsam) really got me on to oil paints... You can work with it a lot longer," Oliver said.

Luke Kral from Conception, Missouri created artwork featuring boxes encasing discarded milk jugs. His piece explores modern plastic consumption through medieval religious art forms like reliquaries. Kral values exhibiting his work locally for validation and exposure.

The Senior Preview Exhibition runs through March 14 at Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building and is open to the public free of charge.
