Dr. Lance Tatum, President | Northwest Missouri State University
Gerry Brooks, a veteran educator recognized for his humorous takes on school climate and culture, will return to Northwest Missouri State University for a campus lecture this fall. The event is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater within the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.
Brooks, who previously visited Northwest last fall, is known for his popular social media videos that encourage teachers and share insights about educational environments. He has worked in education for two decades, starting as a third-grade teacher in Palm Bay, Florida, before serving as an intervention specialist and administrator. His experience includes 12 years as an elementary principal. Brooks currently lives in Lexington, Kentucky with his wife.
The upcoming lecture is supported by Northwest President Dr. Lance Tatum and first lady Jill Tatum, longtime friends of Brooks. Doors to the Fine Arts Building will open at 1 p.m., with an opportunity for attendees to meet Brooks and take photos until 1:45 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting Northwest students who are facing financial challenges by connecting them with resources to help them succeed academically, socially, and financially.
Brooks has built a reputation as an advocate for teachers through both speaking engagements and his book “Go See the Principal,” which offers strategies on fostering positive workplace culture among educators.
