Tourin' Bearcats open reservations for Switzerland and Northern Italy tour in June 2025
Northwest Missouri State University’s Tourin’ Bearcats, a travel program for alumni and friends, is now accepting reservations for its next tour to Switzerland and Northern Italy. The excursion, scheduled for June 1-11, 2025, will feature stops in Zurich, Zermatt, St. Moritz, and Lucerne. Travelers will experience a scenic rail trip through the Bernina Pass and a cruise on Lake Maggiore. The itinerary also includes visits to the Borromeo Palace and Mount Pilatus.

Savannah native receives Matthew White Memorial Scholarship
Northwest Missouri State University student Nathan Sarsany has been awarded the Matthew White Memorial Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. Sarsany, a Savannah, Missouri native, will begin his freshman year at Northwest in the fall and plans to study. He is the son of Jami and Jason Sarsany.

Northwest Missouri State University students lead agricultural day camp

Northwest Missouri State University researchers, in partnership with Mosaic Life Care, recently completed an assessment of pediatric mental health resources in area counties. The study found gaps in resource availability and other barriers preventing access to mental health care for children.

Northwest receives $600K grant to improve College Avenue crosswalk
Northwest Missouri State University is advancing its efforts to enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity along College Avenue in Maryville. The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) has awarded the university a $600,000 grant for improvements to the crosswalk connecting Martindale Hall and the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. This funding will cover 80 percent of the total project cost, with Northwest providing the remaining 20 percent, or up to $150,000, from its annual Campus Master Plan funds.

As Allison Martin realizes a long-term goal this summer of entering the Army Medical Specialist Corps, she reflects gratefully on the education, experiences, and support she gained at Northwest Missouri State University. Martin graduated from Northwest in April with a master’s degree, adding to her bachelor’s degree with a dietetics concentration.

This year’s honorees are Barbara Spencer, an art teacher at Spring Garden Middle School in the St. Joseph School District, and Stacy Walker, who teaches science for grades three through five at North Andrew R-VI School District.

Today, he calls it “the most difficult job I’ve ever loved.” In January, he opened Jameson Chiro Plus in Columbia, Tennessee, the latest step in a chiropractic career he began 15 years ago.

Megan McLaughlin, a 2003 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, has turned her passion for the outdoors and entrepreneurial spirit into a successful career. Growing up in Maryville, McLaughlin spent much of her childhood on boats with her family. In 2008, she decided to turn this interest into a business.

Former classmates cover Kansas City Chiefs' journey at Super Bowl
When the Kansas City Chiefs faced the San Francisco 49ers in this year’s Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, two former classmates were seated just feet from each other among the global media covering the event. Chris Roush has covered the Kansas City Chiefs since joining KQTV in 2015 and reported from this year’s Super Bowl. Brandon Zenner covered his third Super Bowl in February as a sports reporter with KWCH in Wichita, Kansas.

Professor presents paper on baseball literature at Hall of Fame symposium
Dr. Richard Black, a professor of English at Northwest Missouri State University, recently joined academics and researchers from across the country to present at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. As one of 51 presentations, Black presented his paper titled “‘St. Peter got your name in the book’: August Wilson’s ‘Fences’ and Turkin and Thompson’s ‘The Official Encyclopedia of Baseball’” during a session focused on baseball poetry and literature.

Northwest Missouri State University announces esports summer camps for youth
Northwest Missouri State University is offering middle school and high school students an opportunity to participate in two esports summer camps in July on the university campus. The Esports Summer Camp will cater to ages 10 to 13 from Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 11, and to ages 14 to 18 from Monday, July 15, through Thursday, July 18. All camp sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Northwest Missouri State University has initiated a project to transform and modernize the campus’s energy infrastructure. The initiative aims to ensure the University can deliver more reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective heating and cooling to campus facilities for future students. The University anticipates that the project will take approximately two to three years to complete.
